Douglasville is a sprawling suburban city located in Douglas County around 20 miles west of Atlanta. Convenient for commuters with I-20 running straight through the city on its route to Atlanta, this serene community features a historic downtown area with elegant Victorian buildings in a range of popular 19th-century styles. Many more shops and restaurants can be found along I-20 at the Arbor Place Mall. Douglasville also offers lots of green space with several large parks and sports complexes. This transitional city has a mix of classic mid-century ranches, contemporary single-family homes, and undeveloped lots.

Douglasville offers a great mix of shopping, dining, and outdoor recreation. The city is close to the expansive Sweetwater Creek State Park, which provides beautiful scenery and many recreation opportunities. There are also numerous commercial areas with a diverse selection of shops and restaurants. Three interchanges on I-20 make it easy for residents to access Atlanta from anywhere within Douglasville.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Arbor Place is an upscale shopping and dining hub anchored by Belk, Dillard’s, JCPenney, and Macy’s department stores. It has around 140 businesses, including restaurants such as Basil Thai Kitchen, Olive Garden, Johnny Rockets, Mandarin Express, and O’Charley’s. Arbor Place also boasts an 18-screen Regal IMAX movie theater. Commercial developments close to Arbor Place include big-box retailers and strip malls with many more dining choices, including Taste of Thai at Douglasville Promenade for delicious southeast Asian dishes. More shops and restaurants can be found in Douglasville’s historic downtown district, such as lively New Orleans-style Gumbeaux’s Cajun Café. Another commercial district features restaurants and retailers clustered close to Georgia State Route 5. Here, you can shop for farm-fresh produce and specialty local foodstuffs at Farmer’s Table. Farmer’s Table also has a bakery and café serving tasty sandwiches, wraps, salads, and cakes. Nearby Monterrey Mexican Grill & Bar offers a wide choice of flavorful Mexican dishes and a variety of margaritas.

Things to Do

Douglas County Museum of History and Art features rotating exhibits exploring many different aspects of the community’s past. Located in a former courthouse, the museum’s permanent collection contains lots of pop culture items such as lunchboxes, record players, and Coca-Cola branded products. Themes for special exhibits have included Native Americans, the Civil War, and Black education. Just off Georgia State Route 5, Hunter Memorial Park spans 83 acres and offers lots of recreational amenities. These include four horseshoe pits, seven tennis courts, ten multi-use ball fields, twelve batting cages, an 18-hole disc golf course, a covered playground, and paved walking and jogging paths. The park also has a community center and a scenic five-acre lake. Sprawling Sweetwater Creek State Park covers 2,549 acres a short distance to Douglasville’s east. This state park has lots of beautiful scenery along the banks of its namesake Sweetwater Creek and is home to many wildlife species and several campsites. There are also fishing docks and canoe and fishing boat rentals for use on the 215-acre George Sparks Reservoir. Continue past Sweetwater Creek Park on I-20 for Six Flags Over Georgia. This huge amusement park has 11 rollercoasters and dozens more thrilling rides as well as the 7-acre Hurricane Harbor waterpark. The Silver Comet Trail runs just north of Douglasville on its 61.5-mile route from Smyrna to Georgia’s state border with Alabama.
