Midtown is a bustling urban district blending commercial and residential areas. Located between Downtown and Buckhead, this lively cosmopolitan area features Atlanta’s second-largest business district alongside the highest concentration of art and cultural venues in the Southeast. Midtown has several historic districts and many high-rise contemporary condominium towers. Its eclectic housing options include apartments, cottages, townhouses, and elegant multi-million dollar mansions. Residents enjoy living in a very social and walkable district with a huge variety of amenities nearby.

The area is comprised of varied neighborhoods that include some of the most sought-after destinations in Atlanta. Popular neighborhoods within Midtown include Ansley Park, Candler Park, Inman Park, Lake Claire, Morningside, and Virginia Highland.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Ponce City Market has transformed Midtown’s historic Sears, Roebuck & Co. building into one of Atlanta’s premier shopping and dining hubs. Featuring trendy boutiques alongside brands such as J. Crew, lululemon atheletica, and Sephora, Ponce City Market also has specialty shops, fitness and yoga studios, and interior design stores West Elm and Williams-Sonoma. The Roof at Ponce City Market offers great food and drinks at 9 Mile Station and 12 Cocktail Bar, fun rides and mini-golf at Skyline Park, and sweeping views over Atlanta. The many restaurants inside Ponce City Market include European-style café and bakery Root Baking Co., Indian-style street food at Botiwalla, and spicy Sichuan cuisine at Tasty China Jia. There are many more shopping, dining, and entertainment options throughout the neighborhoods of Midtown Atlanta. The Lawrence on Juniper Street offers Southern cooking, creative cocktails, and signature house bourbon in a stylish setting with an outdoor patio. The Vortex serves some of the best burgers in Atlanta at locations on Peachtree Street and in the Little Five Points district. Vortex’s Peachtree Street location also has a comedy club. Sports bar Taco Mac is another Atlanta institution with two locations in Midtown. A local favorite for big-screen live sports, a huge craft beer selection, award-winning wings, and other outstanding bar eats, the original Taco Mac opened in Virginia Highlands in 1979. Classic European-style coffeehouse Café Intermezzo on Peachtree Street has a menu of 70 tasty pastries and more than 800 beverages. For groceries and deli items, Tuscany at Your Table in Virginia Highlands is stocked with imported Italian products and delicious ready-to-eat foodstuffs. You can also pick up fresh local produce and specialty foodstuffs from the weekly Morningside Farmers Market and Ponce City Farmers Market.

Things to Do

Midtown’s many entertainment options include Broadway musicals and concerts from touring musical acts and comedians at the Fox Theatre. The Tony Award-winning Alliance Theatre stages original productions that have included actors such as Richard Dreyfuss, Morgan Freeman, and Cybill Shepherd. Many productions that premiered at the Alliance Theatre have later been staged on Broadway. Midtown Bowl has been a fixture since the 1960s and remains a fun destination with 32 state-of-the-art bowling lanes as well as arcade games, food, and a full bar. Innovative circus group Cirque Du Soleil regularly stages productions under the Big Top at Midtown’s Atlantic Station. The High Museum of Art on Peachtree Street has a diverse permanent collection with works that include Claude Monet paintings and Auguste Rodin sculptures. Also on Peachtree Street, the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum preserves the 19th century home that author Margaret Mitchell lived in while writing Gone With the Wind. Spanning 189 acres, Piedmont Park is one of the largest urban green spaces in the United States. Park amenities include miles of paved mixed-use trails, sports fields and courts, a fishing and boating lake, and tennis and swimming centers. Many events are held at Piedmont Park throughout the year, including Music Midtown in September. This two-day festival features some of the biggest names in music, with recent headliners such as Beck, Billie Eilish, Bruno Mars, Post Malone, and Travis Scott. Historic Fourth Ward Park is another Midtown green space with a pond, a splash pad, a skate park, and rolling grass lawns. The Old Fourth Ward neighborhood is also home to the birth home of Martin Luther King Jr. Prestigious Midtown institutions include Emory University Hospital Midtown and the main campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology.
